Gold prices in Bangladesh have hit a new record, with the price of 22-carat gold rising by Tk 4,187 to Tk 1,63,214 per bhori (11.664 grams).
The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) has set the new price, which will be effective from today (April 13).
Before this, the highest price of 22-carat gold was Tk 1,58,027, set on April 11.
According to BAJUS, the price has been raised due to an increase in the price of refined gold in the local market. The decision was made at a meeting of BAJUS’s pricing committee on Saturday.
According to new price, the price of 21-carat gold has gone up by Tk 4,001 to Tk 1,55,796 per bhori. The 18-carat gold price has been raised by Tk 3,429 to Tk 1,33,541 per bhori. Gold made using the traditional method will now cost Tk 1,10,271 per bhori, up by Tk 2,927.
However, silver prices remain unchanged.
The price of 22-carat silver is Tk 2,578 for, 21-carat is Tk 2,449, 18-carat will cost Tk 2,111, and Tk 1,586 for traditional silver per bhori.
This is the 14th time in just over two months that gold prices have increased. The most recent price hikes were on April 11, March 28, 26, 19, 17 and 5; February 2, 6, 11, 18 and 21; and January 16, 23 and 30. During this period, gold prices were also lowered on February 24 and 28, March 2 and 9, and April 8.
The last price update before this increase was on April 11, when 22-carat gold was raised by Tk 2,403 to Tk 1,59,027. Before that, on April 9, the same quality gold was reduced by Tk 1,248 to Tk 1,56,624.
Market analysts say continued international market fluctuations and rising demand in the local market are contributing to the frequent changes in gold prices.
